ZTE to Launch Firefox OS-based Mobile Phones

Jan 10, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063, SEHK: 0763) will cooperate with Europe's mobile operators to develop mobile phones adopting Mozilla's Firefox operating system (OS).

The information was stated by Cheng Lixin, CEO of ZTE's US segment, during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week.

ZTE may also launch such mobile phones in the US in 2013, added Cheng, adding that the company is searching for new partners developing OS to reduce its dependence on Google's Android OS.

In terms of shipments, Android phones take up 75% share of smartphone market, according to data from IDC. ZTE is developing mobile devices and cloud computing business now, whose operating revenue is reckoned to grow to a larger extent than those of other traditional communication devices.

Samsung is also planning to develop mobile phones adopting Tizen OS so as to reduce its dependence on Android.
