Ingate Adds Test Agent, VoIP Diagnostic Tools in New Software Version 4.8

Advanced Troubleshooting, Quality Statistics for SIP, VoIP, SIP Trunks HOLLIS, NH – December 9, 2009 – Ingate Systems, a leading provider of Enterprise Session Border Controllers (E-SBCs) that enable SIP communications such as SIP trunking and Unified Communications (News - Alert) beyond the protected enterprise network, has added new diagnostic tools and enhanced quality statistic reporting in new Ingate software version 4.8, now available for all Ingate Firewall and Ingate SIParator products.


The new software features a SIP Test Agent that offers significant diagnostic capabilities to help identify the location of and isolate any issues with SIP communications. In this manner, 4.8 provides a significant advantage to service providers, end users and resellers by speeding up the process of diagnosing problems, so a solution can be implemented as soon as possible.

With the SIP Test Agent, test calls are manually initiated or scheduled for periodic tests. This helps ensure that the system is always “live,” calls are able to be connected and that calls are delivered to the correct recipient.

The Ingate SIP Test Agent also includes an echo server. The echo server listening to a configured address answers all incoming calls and echoes back the media to ensure a successful two-way connection. The echo server also determines whether there is delay and, if so, how big the delay is.

“Ingate’s software version 4.8 delivers exceptional tools to help ensure VoIP reliability. With the Ingate Test Agent, service providers, resellers and end-users can quickly diagnose where issues may be occurring, either on the WAN or LAN side of the network, so that a solution can be put into place quickly,” said Steven Johnson (News - Alert), President, Ingate Systems.

The new software also includes enhancements to Ingate’s Media Quality Scoring. For carriers that want to use the Ingate as a demarcation point between their network and the enterprise network, media quality scoring gathered the statistics necessary to monitor service delivery to maintain QoS. This allows carriers to see the primary statistics for determining the quality of the call through the network and diagnose whether problems are caused on the public or private side.

With the Ingate Firewall or SIParator as demarcation point, it can monitor the RTP stream and compute statistics for the number of packets sent, bytes sent, jitter, number of missing packets and maximum number of consecutive missing packets. This information can be gathered as separate data for each direction and reported individually. It can also be used to compute a Mean Opinion Score (MOS).
