SACRAMENTO, Calif. _ California regulators have passed strict energy-efficiency standards to ban some of the most power-hungry TVs from store shelves to lower electricity consumption. The first-in-the-nation mandate approved by the California Energy Commission required all new televisions up to 58 inches to be more energy efficient beginning in 2011.
