BRIEF: SEIU, clerical union in Ridgefield, reaches agreement with town, will save $30,000
RIDGEFIELD, Mar 19, 2009 (The News-Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The clerical workers union of Ridgefield town employees, SEIU, agreed Wednesday night to concessions that will allow the town to save $30,000 in the coming budget year.
The workers had initially rejected a request from the town's selectmen for salary freezes. But Wednesday, they came to an agreement both sides felt they could work with.
"Our members met yesterday hoping that there was a more comprehensive economic plan -- one that wouldn't hurt working families in today's economy," Matt O'Connor communications director of the SEIU, the clerical union, said on Thursday.
"From the beginning, our intent was to work with the first selectman and town management. Our hope was to get through a plan that helped the Ridgefield community and still didn't hurt our members' families."
Details on the concessions will be coming as this story develops.
