David Berg Named Chief Operating Officer of Best Buy International
MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)-- Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) has named David Berg chief operating officer of Best Buy International, a new position. He reports to Robert Willett, chief executive officer of Best Buy International, the strategic business unit of Best Buy focused on creating opportunities for controlled growth and innovation outside of the United States.
"David has a keen understanding of the international business environment and I am delighted to have him as a partner as Best Buy enters new global markets and explores other opportunities for growth," said Willett. "David is an impact player and has been integral to the growth and success of Best Buy's expansion into China. He played a key role in the acquisition of Jiangsu Five Star Appliance, the fourth-largest appliance and consumer electronics retailer in China, and has been integral to the success of our post-merger work. Most important, David approaches our global expansion with a customer-centric approach. We may find ourselves growing in very different ways than we have in North America and, regardless of our approach, the customer will be at the center of everything we do."
Berg is responsible for evaluating new market opportunities, leading international merger and acquisition work and post-merger integration. He also directs efforts to improve the efficiencies of Best Buy's Canadian and Chinese operations.
Berg joined Best Buy in 2002 as vice president and associate general counsel where he played a crucial role in the company's sale of its Musicland division in 2003. Berg was promoted in 2004 to senior vice president, strategic alliances, where he focused on maximizing enterprise-wide strategic relationships with significant external partners.
Prior to joining Best Buy, Berg was president and COO of Danka Business Systems with responsibility for that company's operations in Latin America, Canada and Asia Pacific. Berg has extensive international and mergers and acquisitions experience having served as the president of a start-up Internet company, and prior to that in various general counsel roles.
Berg serves on the board of directors for the Best Buy Children's Foundation. Berg received a bachelor's degree in economics from Emory University; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law where he also was an honors graduate.
