Trenitalia, Telicom Italia launch mobile ticket booking service
(DMEurope Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) DMEUROPE-9 November 2006-Trenitalia, Telicom Italia launch mobile ticket booking service (C)2006 DMeurope.com (http://www.dmeurope.com) & DME Ltd. All rights reserved.
Telicom Italia Mobile (TIM) subscribers with internet access can now book railway tickets from their cell phone.
The incumbent operator has launched a service allowing customers to book railway tickets from their mobile phones without using a credit card. Once a booking is made, subscribers can pay for their ticket by midnight the following day at any of the 20,000 SISAL lotto outlets or at any Trenitalia sales outlets (including travel agencies, station ticket offices or ticket machines).
To use the service, customers log on to the TIM Mobile portal, go to the '119 e Utility' section and access Trenitalia services to consult the timetable or book a ticket. Customers can also book a ticket via SMS. Customers send a text message containing the word 'Trenitalia' and receive in return a message containing an automatic link. The link will take them to the 'Postoclick,' Trenitalia's ticket booking service. Once a booking has been made, the system sends a text message and e-mail with a summary of the trip and a booking number which must be given to a sales outlet when paying for the ticket. Postoclick can be used up to three days before departure and up to three bookings may be made at any one time.
The service is valid for all trains that can be booked from the www.trenitalia.com website or through the Italian railways call centre, including Alta Velocit , Eurostar, Treno OK, T-biz, Intercity, Intercity Plus, Intercity Notte and Espressi trains. There is no charge for consulting the timetable, although customers must pay a 1 fee per booking.
