Javed Hashmi Release Campaign will accept Signature Sheets
Javed Hashmi Release Committee (JHRC) has received over 500 signatures of support in the first week of the Campaign, 355 from the province of the Punjab that are in the form of signed sheets of paper. The Committee will combine both numbers, from Signature Sheets and Online Petition, on its web page.
The sample Signatures Sheets are now available online. The signatures must accompany full name and address to be counted. Valid signatures will be projected on the JHRC web page at: http://www.shariahaunt.com/jhrcsignatures.html
"For our campaign, having just an online petition is not enough," Says the JHRC Convener, Mohammed Anwer. "Because the petition requires that each supporter has access to a computer, internet and an email address but majority of our people in Pakistan does not have access to these things."
A shorter version of the Online Petition is now available in Urdu upon request while the JHRC is setting up volunteers to develop Punjabi, Sindhi, Baluchi and Kashmiri versions. To request a signature sheet for your area, or to volunteer to prepare one in your language, contact the JHRC Convener.
The Government of Pakistan had charged Javed Hashmi in 2004 on the basis of a fraudulent case of treason to silence a strong political voice, and he was given a 23-year jail term that he is now fulfilling in a Lahore jail. The JHRC was formed January 14, 2006 in Toronto to lobby for the release of Javed Hashmi and all political prisoners in Pakistan. A petition was brought online on January 26 and Signature Sheets are being introduced today.
