Keithley Contest Winner Donates Equipment to California Lutheran University
CLEVELAND --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 16, 2005 -- Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI), a leader in solutions for emerging measurement needs, has announced that Dr. Ira Goldberg of California Lutheran University (CLU) recently donated an electrical test system to the school that he won as part of a company-sponsored promotion. Dr. Goldberg, Professor of Chemistry and Physics at CLU, decided to donate the test system he won to the university's lab to be used for student and faculty research.
The Keithley equipment, which includes a Model 2015 Total Harmonic Distortion Digital Multimeter, Model 2701 Ethernet-Based Data Acquisition System, Model 2700 Data Acquisition System, and two Model 7700 switch modules for the systems, is now being used in CLU's Chemistry and Physics labs to help shorten the time it takes to collect and analyze data. Researchers can collect experimental data and send it to a computer for immediate analysis and then gain online access to data at their desks for review and reporting.
Goldberg noted, "Keithley equipment is particularly well-suited for these applications because of its easy set-up for computer networking. This is especially important in our new physics-bioengineering research program, which is multidisciplinary and requires several different laboratories to address a particular problem." He added, "Keithley equipment is well-known for its reliability and fine technical support from the factory, which is important to a university the size of CLU."
In the Chemistry Department, the equipment will be used in the environmental chemistry and physical chemistry labs. In the Physics Department, the systems will be used in a new bioengineering program that consists of student-faculty research. Specifically, the Model 2015 will be used for analyzing non-linear responses of biophysical processes, including circuit and mechanical responses of tissue to mechanical strain. In both the Chemistry and Physics departments, the data acquisition systems will provide a link between multiple instruments and a lab computer for on-line access. Eventually, this equipment will be interfaced with Keithley instruments in other CLU labs, including those in the new physics-bioengineering building.
