Hi-Vision Real-Time Encoding System Co-Developed with NHK; Realize Large Cuts in Transmission Costs of Hi-Vision Content

OSAKA, Japan --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 30, 2005 -- B.H.A Corporation announced today the release on the 15th September 2005 of XVD CamCast(R) Professional HD, the high-definition real-time encoding and streaming system that utilizes XVD, a high-compression video/audio codec developed by XVD Corporation.

XVD CamCast Professional HD is the first in a series of XVD products that was co-developed with technical input from NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). Marubeni Solutions Corporation, BHA's strategic XVD sales partner in Japan, and other affiliated business partners, will handle domestic sales of the product.

XVD CamCast Professional HD compresses 1080i or 720p high-definition video and stereo audio into a 3 - 10 Mbps XVD-HD data stream in real-time and transmits it via IP networks (TCP/IP) as well as DVB satellite networks using an optional XVD-HD DVB/ASI converter. It is possible to transmit 1080i (60fps) or 720p (30fps) HDTV content at very low bitrates, approximately one-third the bandwidth required for MPEG2 video. The transmitter is a highly portable device utilizing four DSP chips embedded with the XVD video/audio codec, which is known for realizing high-video quality at very low bitrates. The unit is extremely small at 165mm x 212mm x 44mm and light weight at less than 2kg, and can be operated with battery power due to low power consumption.

With all TV stations upgrading their equipment in preparation for the full transition from analog to digital broadcasting, XVD CamCast Professional HD is attracting attention as a practical space-saving, highly-portable product that also contributes to a significant reduction in transmission costs over IP broadband and satellite networks. It is expected to change the common conception that specialized lines or satellites are necessary to deliver huge volumes of high-definition content.

XVD CamCast Professional HD can be used in various sectors, including remote education, remote medical services, security, live broadcasts and event monitoring, electronic news gathering, as well as HDTV broadcasts and real-time HDTV content transmission.
