Research and Markets: Worldwide Hotspot 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis: Still Spotty, But Gaining Salience
DUBLIN, Ireland --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 20, 2005 -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c12034) has announced the addition of Worldwide Hotspot 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis: Still Spotty, But Gaining Salience to their offering
This IDC study presents IDC's worldwide forecast for the public WLAN hotspot access market covering the period 2003-2008. The worldwide hotspot market remains at its early stages of development despite its rapid growth and availability to more users. Deployments vary market-by-market, and pure-play service providers and wireless and wireline carriers are continually evolving their business models, pricing, and positioning to further reflect the needs of the fast-changing global hotspot user market. Hotspots are still primarily targeted to business travellers, with most hotspots currently deployed in hotels, restaurants, cafes, and convention centres. To exploit the promise and potential of this opportunity, service providers, wireless and wireline carriers, and large IT equipment incumbents are trying to find the best practices in terms of rolling out future hotspots as well as pricing issues for different segments of end users. Key findings include:
- Over the next five years, the worldwide number of commercial hotspots will grow at a 41% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). By 2008, the last year of the forecast period, the number of public hotspots worldwide will grow to about 250,000.
- Building out the network has been the main focus of hotspot operators as they continue to scout and build alliances with owners of choice sites, and this will continue through the end of 2005.
- Roaming relationships and network partnerships will continue to play an important role for providers to fill in holes in their footprints and expand network utilization.
